Heliocentric Model

Heliocentric Model

Our Current Model is called the Heliocentric model. The Heliocentric Model tells us that the sun is in the middle of the solar system and all the other planets orbit it. The word Heliocentric come from the Greek word Helios meaning sun, therefore Heliocentric means that the sun is in the middle. The Heliocentric Model was first proposed by Nicolaus Copernicus. “He first published the heliocentric system in his book: “De revolutionibus orbium coelestium,” Nicolaus Copernicus actually built on the work of Aristarchus, he too mentioned the Greek Astronomer in his notes. It became so popular that people still talk about it today and refer to it as the Copernicus Model. “Through the use of geometry, he was able to turn the heliocentric model from a philosophical hypothesis to a theory that did a very good job predicting the movement of the planets and other celestial bodies.” Although the process was slow, eventually the Heliocentric Model replaced the Geocentric Model.
